The somali National Flag


The Somalia National flag was acquired on 12th October, in 1954 and symbolize the five regions that Somalia Ethnics and territories Comprise. It was designed by Mohammed Awale Liban.  Mohammed Awale Liban our fellow Country man and one of the known Somali scholars of his time, after he had been selected by the Somali labour trade union to come up with a design in preparation for independence.

The blue base color stands for the blue sky over Somalia and the United Nations, who assisted the country of Somalia to become conscious regarding its dream of freedom.

The white star denotes African liberty. Each of the star's points symbolizes the five historic realms occupied by the Somali people.

The array of lands integrates: Italian Somaliland (southern Somalia), French Djibouti British Somaliland and northern Frontier Districts, Kenya (NFD) in addition to Ogadenia region of Ethiopia.
